Sunless Tan FAQ
Why should I choose airbrush tanning?
Tanned skin is actually the result of damage to skin cells. The repeated damage to skin cells can lead to wrinkles, age spots, premature aging and skin cancer. Almost all melanomas are caused by ultraviolet exposure. This includes UV exposure from the sun and from artificial sources, such as tanning beds.
Sunless tanning is an safe way to get the look of a naturally occurring tan without the dangers associated with conventional tanning.
What should I expect at my appointment?
You will be hand sprayed by a trained airbrush artist (no machines here!) to ensure a natural looking color and application.
You can wear as much or as little as you want during the session. Some women wear a bra and underwear, others just a thong, and some go nude to minimize tan lines. Our staff is professional, discreet & will do everything to make you feel comfortable during your session. Please note, men must wear bottoms.
After discussing your desired result, your tan artist will spray you with a custom solution. Your tan artist will give you clear, easy to understand directions on how to move and what to do as they spray. The entire appointment should take between 15 and 30 minutes depending on whether you are a mobile client or salon client.
You will want to leave wearing loose, dark clothes. While the bronzer in our solutions should wash out of clothing without any problem (though some fabrics such as nylon and leather have been know to stain), you will develop tan lines if you immediately put on tight fitting clothes. If rain or snow is possible, please plan accordingly to avoid getting wet.
How should I prepare for my spray tan?
The day of your appointment you will want to shower, shave and exfoliate your skin. Do not wear any deodorant, lotions, makeup or perfume to your appointment.
How should I maintain my sunless tan?
After your tan is applied you need to stay dry for at least 8 hours (unless you chose the express tan option).
Avoid showering with very hot water, scrubbing or rubbing with a towel. You should pat dry after bathing. Hot tubs and swimming pools will shorten the lifespan of your tan.
The more moisturized you keep your skin, the longer lasting and better your results will be. Chose a lotion without mineral oil, petroleum, sulfates, or drying alcohols. We have lots of great options for you in the salon to help your tan look its best.
How long will my tan last?
There are a lot of variables! Factors like your solution preference and how moisturized you keep your skin following your appointment will effect longevity. Even hormones & your cycle can play a role in how your tan lasts. Tans usually last anywhere from 5 - 10 days.
I have an upcoming event, how far in advance should I have my tan applied?
We recommend 2 days before your event. But really 1 - 3 days ahead will work.
Do you offer organic tanning solutions?
We always chose products with purest and most natural ingredient list possible. We spray ourselves, our family members and our closest friends with these solutions weekly. Nothing is more important than the safety and purity of our products.
The biggest lie in the tanning industry right now is the use of the term "organic". The USDA is only agency in the USA that certifies products organic, the problem is that it only applies to agricultural products. The DHA, colorants, and fragrances used in sunless tanning are not agricultural products. Anyone who currently claims to have "certified" organic DHA or a 100% organic tanning solution is either being mislead themselves or is misleading you. Ask for their certification information, the label of organic products must state the certifier.
